FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is PresenterTools really free?
Yes! The Community Edition is 100% free and open source (GPLv3). It includes drawing, shapes, text, zoom, mouse highlight, timer, boards, and multi-monitor support. No trials, no limits, no account required.
What does "lifetime license" mean?
You pay once ($19.99) and the Pro license never expires. All future updates are included. No subscriptions, no renewals. If we release a major new version (e.g. v2.0), we may charge for the upgrade — but your v1 license works forever.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. PresenterTools works 100% offline. The license is validated locally using cryptographic signatures — no phone-home, no cloud, no account system. Perfect for classrooms and secure environments.
Can I use it on multiple computers?
Your Pro license is tied to you, not to a specific machine. You can activate it on your desktop and laptop. For team/site licenses, contact us.
How do I upgrade from Free to Pro?
You don't need to download a new app. Simply buy a Pro license key, then paste it in Settings → License → Activate. All Pro features unlock instantly in the same app.
What about the education discount?
Students and teachers can get Pro for $9.99. Contact us with your school email (.edu) or institution details, and we'll send a discount code.
Is the source code really open?
Yes — the entire codebase is on GitHub under GPLv3. You can inspect every line, build from source, and contribute improvements. We believe in transparency.
How is this different from Epic Pen?
Epic Pen charges €24/year as a subscription. PresenterTools Pro is a one-time $19.99 payment. Plus, we include screen recording, camera overlay, teleprompter, and notes — features Epic Pen doesn't have.
